Red ~C Diary: On Gaia and Zaadz Nostalgia

(Crossposted from ~C4Chaos@Gaia)

It’s barely a day since Zaadz transformed into Gaia and I’m already feeling a pinch of nostalgia. Most members have embraced the change. Some members have expressed sadness and protest. We (the team) feel their zaadness. We have our reasons. Zaadz will always be special to us. We’ve (the team and members)
taken a cryptic Dutch word and gave it a new meaning in cyberspace.
We’ve made it hot. We’ve made it fluffy. We’ve made it cool. We’d like
to thank all 150,000+ members who made Zaadz a sweet success.

Our deepest gratitude to all of you!

But the time has come to practice what we preach — to be the change so
we could change our world. And there’s nothing more fitting than this
serendipitous quote from William Butler Yeats.

"Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing." ~William Butler Yeats

Thanks again to all our members. If you’ve grown to love Zaadz, you’ll
love what Gaia has in store for you (and that purple color will sink in
too :)). We’re just getting started. Here’s to more adventures that lie
ahead.

Keep on growing and flowing…

  1. “But the time has come to practice what we preach” … are you saying if we don’t embrace the change to Gaia that we’re not practicing what we preach?

I dig your enthusiasm for what you’re doing. But people have the right to be pissed off that their time and energy into building the Zaadz community has now been sold to an organization they didn’t originally buy into.

i’m not denying the right of people to be pissed off. by all means, go ahead and get pissed. but once you’re done getting pissed, please take the time to get know the organization who bought Zaadz and see if there really is a conflict with our original ideals. as you can see, our mission and vision remain the same.

thanks for staying with Gaia 🙂

I’ve encountered some negative reactions to the rebranding from some of my friends and I keep reminding them that the same team and vision is be behind it. I imagine it’s mostly a knee-jerk reaction to be upset. Other than some concerns with old links and feeds still working, I haven’t seen any substantial problems that could emerge other than a possible shift in demographics.

  4. I’d been trying to remember the name of Zaadz all last night until finally this morning a google search brought me to an old article on yahoo which brought me here… I was thinking of a green facebook, which you could say Zaadz was the attempt at a seed… If Gaiam kept the social network component, I can’t find it, so it’s still on my bucket list. The folks at Reality Sandwich or Elephant Journal have attempted this as well, but failed in my opinion to integrate spiritual aspirations with green concerns and innovative technologies. We’re working with some people on what could perhaps be something serious that would aggregate all the planet savers, but I’m cautious.
