Ethics Committee (Do No Evil)

Every organization could use one.

Google has an Ethics Committee, the company’s Dr. Eran Gabber revealed yesterday to a group of Israeli students. Google never mentions such details to the press, but Ido Kenan, a reporter for the daily NRG Maariv found himself in a recruitment talk by Dr.Gabber. (A blabbing blogger had spilled the details of Gabber’s visit to Tel Aviv University).

My only hope is that they don’t lose the ethical vision after their IPO.

Speaking of evil, these people are ranting their hearts out in answering the question: “What is Evil?” My take on it? Evil is a necessary evil.

For the best analysis of evil from an ethical perspective, read Michael Berumen’s Do No Evil: Ethics with Applications to Economics and Business. It deals with much more than econ. and business. I highly recommend it to people who want to know what to do, or more importantly, what not to do.

Yes, I agaree, Berumen’s book is outstanding. Most philosophers pay a disproportinate amount of attention to doing good as opposed to not causing evil, which Berumen demonstrates is the more important consideration. Very instructive.
