Like a duck who just learned how to fly and was shot-gunned during duck season, I was shotdown by Google. And it hurts like hell.
I started this blogsite so I could rant my ass off, but at the same time, offer myself as a “portal/link” to a bigger integral community. This blogsite may be self-serving but one of its humble goals is to promote the Integral Theory and link a network of integrally-informed bloggers.
I never intended this site to be a source of income. Yes, I have ads here and I’m currently a proud Amazon.com associate, however, the reason for promoting such materials is to really “promote” the Integral Vision. So why not make money at the same time? This is my concept of right-livelihood.
Then I thought, why not promote more integrally-informed products that are out there? And what better way of doing this than using Google’s excellent AdSense? So I was shaking with optimism when I sent Google my application so I could use this service. Lo and behold, my application was denied! (see email below)
After reading Google’s AdSense policies in detail, I understood why. Google’s AdSense could not be used on “personal” websites/blogs. “In general, we do not accept personal pages or chat sites into the AdSense program. However, if a site contains targeted, text-based content and/or provides a product or service, we may consider it for participation.” – see Google’s AdSense policy.
Although I sympathize with Google’s policies, I still continue to be hurt by its judgment. Yeah, it’s true that I don’t offer any services (or products), but I really think that what I’m trying to accomplish is comparable to a service or product–which is promoting an idea, in this case, The Integral Theory.
I respect Google’s decision and I understand that it is only valid that they be strict with their regulation. Yes, there maybe hard feelings, but I will always admire Google. And so, until I could start my own consulting service or sell any products of my own on this blogsite, I will remain a blogger marginalized by Google(TM) AdSense… Good thing there’s Amazon.com.

Addendum:
(10/30/2003) - I’m ecstatic that I’m not the only one who’s bitching about Google (TM) Adsense Policy. There is an excellent article written by Monkey X about this topic. Alternatives exist…
(11/16/2003) - sucking up to Google.
